How do credit and check cards differ?

Today check cards (also referred to as debit cards) look exactly like credit cards - they even carry the same logos. Both types of cards can be swiped at the checkout counter, used at the gas pump, or for internet purchases. Both cards are accepted by millions of merchants around the world, but they are different...

Visa® Check Card

Century Bank's Visa Check Card purchases are automatically deducted from your checking account. There is no interest to pay and there are no monthly service fees. Your monthly statement provides you with a record of all transactions, making record-keeping simple. It's quicker than using an ATM, more convenient than writing checks, and safer than carrying cash.

Visa® Credit Card

When you use your Visa credit card to make a purchase you are establishing credit by using borrowed money and then paying your Visa bills promptly. Each month you receive a statement of your transactions. You will be responsible for paying a percentage of your total balance in a minimum monthly payment.

If you are a Century Bank customer there is no yearly fee charged for use of a Century Bank Visa credit card. However you will be charged interest on the outstanding balance in your account at the rate which you agreed to when you applied for your credit card. This is known as the annual percentage rate (APR).
